Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus – Review
This is the Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus, the latest flagship phablet to come from the tech giant. It features a fantastic display, brilliant photo-taking capabilities and super fast software. It definitely is a move forward in technology, featuring high end specs with a huge screen size that some may think is too big, and a price to match the huge screen. A nearly completely bezel-less screen looks stunning too, bringing a truly edge-to-edge display with it.
The screen size is certainly eye-catching, sizing in at 6.2-inches, and with its brilliantly elegant curved screen it is only a smidgen bigger than the previous Edge. The removal of the oval home button and reduction of bezels has made this happen. The Samsung gurus appear to have kept their place at the top of the smartphone trendsetter pile, with plenty of features that may become mainstays in future generations of other firms. The only not futuristic aspect of this phone would be the fingerprint scanner on the rear that seems to be lacking in updates recently, and feels a bit old.
The design of this device is simply brilliant and futuristic, with the ‘Infinity Display’ maximising the nearly bezel-less screen. This will be the phone many were after, because it is almost all screen, a big screen as well, in a relatively small casing for the best of both worlds. The S8 Plus is actually only a millimetre longer and is actually thinner and heavier than the iPhone 7 Plus. On the rear you’ll also find theold ugly rear camera bump has been eliminated, and along with it the Samsung logo making for a much cleaner and sleeker backside of the phone.
The display is the next big thing on this phablet, a 6.2-inch screen with a new 18.5:9 aspect ratio and HDR. It is an AMOLED display that simply blows any competition away, partly due to it packing so many pixels onto that big screen, it is definitely the best display out of every phone so far. With a very impressive 88% screen-to-body ratio, its much nicer to look at than the 68% screen-to-body ratio on the iPhone 7 Plus.
The power is also big news on the S8 Plus, with app opening and closing faster than ever. Despite the device only having 4GB of RAM, it contains one of the best chipsets available right now, and with it is the very speedy Exynos 8895. Slow-downs on this phone are nowhere to be found, and will run any task you wish with ease. It also packs 64GB of storage with expansion available in the form of MicroSD slots.
The 12MP camera is also excellent, with snaps now much better in low-lighting and videos also see improvement being smoother and better quality. With multi-frame image processing and newer/better technology behind the f/1.7 aperture it offers better images capturing much more than the previous gen. The selfie camera is also improved, coming from the previous 5MP sensor to a 8MP one on the S8 Plus, giving much better end-results.
The Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus is truly great, with many features to boast about. The design is sleek, with a real edge-to-edge display many are looking for.
